Mark 15 & the atonement theory

Hey gang. A quick reminder of our YI group tomorrow night @ 7. We’ll be here at church in room 1. Try to read over Mark 15 as we’ll be talking about what the crucifixion means for us today. I’ll lay out 4 possible “atonement theories” and we’ll discuss. Come ready to talk and share again like last week (which was awesome by the way). Happy Easter Season to you all!

Mark 14 & Easter

Just a quick reminder about Young Impact tonight in room 1 @ 7:00 pm here at church. “Pretty Please” read Mark 14. It’s a very familiar chapter to most of us. And only one question all night: What does Easter mean to you? Come ready to share your thoughts, perspective, wisdom and grace with others. See you all soon.

Keep Watch…and try to stay awake, please.

Tonight we’ll discuss Mark 13. It’s a great chapter that has many interpretations (some good and some not so good) as well as lots to say to us today some 2,000+ years after Christ. Since it has turned back to winter we’ll meet in Room 1 at FUMC @ 7:00 p.m. Coffee and hot coco will be provided to keep us warm. “Pretty Please” read chapter 13 before coming as this will help our discussion greatly.

Can’t wait to see you all again. Oh yeah, Easter Egg stuffing as well tonight for FUMC’s Easter Egg Hunt at The Sixth Ward Park next weekend. Good times!

Peace through Christ,

Eddie

Porch Party with Mark

Hey gang. We will be meeting on the front porch of FUMC tonight because it’s going to be awesome weather. The front porch is on the Duke St. side of First Church right below Eddie’s office. We’ll be looking at Mark 12…and lots of people as they walk by. Kate is leading the discussion so come prepared by reading Mark 12 beforehand. Have a great day Impacters!

Peace.

Chapter 11

We’re quickly moving towards the end of the Gospel according to Mark. Tonight we discuss Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, as well as his disdain for the way in which his temple has been transformed. We’ll be at FUMC at 7:00 pm in room 1 so hopefully you can make it. As you read think about these few questions.

1. How do you shout “Hosanna” in your life?

2. What about the fig tree? What’s the point of this seemingly random story.

3. What keeps you from claiming the power of prayer?

Looking forward to seeing you all tonight!

When Christians Get It…RIGHT!

Hey gang. We finish up our study tonight by being reminded that through God’s grace we can “get it right” when it comes to talking with people who don’t always see eye-to-eye with our faith in Christ. I hope you can all make it tonight! Kate will facilitate the conversation so come read to talk, share, laugh and love each other through Christ.

We will meet at FUMC in room 1 @ 7:00 p.m.

Happy Fat Tuesday!

When Dealing with Homosexuality

20120124-104240.jpg

Hey gang. Don't miss Tuesday's conversation about how we as Christians deal with the issue of homosexuality. We're still meeting at First UMC in room 1, downstairs across from the fellowship hall. Come ready for a great conversation, open mind and love for others on the journey of faith in Christ.

Coffee and snacks will be provided. Hope to see you all there.

Christians, Science and Politics

20120124-104240.jpg

Hey gang. Just a quick reminder that tonight our meeting is at First UMC in room 1, downstairs across from the fellowship hall. We are continuing the conversation of "When Christians Get It Wrong." Our topic of conversation this evening is on science and politcs. How do Christians react to the scientific world and how does our faith affect our political world? It should be a great time.

Coffee and snacks will be provided. Hope to see you all there.

New Study Teaser

Hey gang. Here is a quick teaser for our new study that begins on Tuesday night at First Church. Don’t forget, we will meet in Room 1 at FUMC (Kate’s office) for this study at 7:00 p.m. It should be a great study!

See you all very soon!

When Christians Get It Wrong

20120111-145133.jpgHey Young Impact! After studying the first eight chapters of the Gospel of Mark, we are going to take a break for a while and pick up a new study by Adam Hamilton entitled, “When Christians Get It Wrong.” We’re excited about this study for several reasons. One, we believe it will strengthen our group to have a discussion about how we as Christians are perceived by others. Second, it will, at times, challenge our faith through discovering God’s desire for us to love God and love others completely. And finally, it will give us a chance to put all that we’ve studied from the Gospel of Mark into practice in our day-to-day encounters with others.

We will be meeting at the church for this study because it is a DVD study (and we all know how hard it was at SB last time we did a DVD). We will meet in Kate’s Office (aka Room 1) which is at the bottom of the stairs directly across from the Fellowship Hall. For all you YAC’ers, it’s the same room.

We will still meet at 7:00 p.m. each Tuesday night so only the location has changed. Coffee will be provided.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask Kate or Eddie. We’ll be glad to clarify anything.

Thanks for your continued dedication to Young Impact! It’s so great to see each of you on a weekly basis for fellowship, fun and faith.

Have a great week!

Kate and Eddie
